What's a "zinit?"

Xinit, pronounced 'ECKS-init' (short 'i's) is the name of a script used to initialise the X Window graphical system in Linux distributions such as Red Hat, SuSE and Debian. The name was chosen because the X Window System is an integral part of any complete Linux distribution - in the same way that we play a pivotal role in the evolution of your I.T. infrastructure.

Some trivia about our name. Initially we thought of calling our company "Init" systems. However, in colloquial British English, the term "Init" is slang for "isn't it?". The amount of ridicule that would have evoked would surely have made sales calls all the more....interesting shall we say. Not that the name "Xinit" does not have its downsides - we've been called "Zinit" more times than we'd like to mention. In the end we settled on "Xinit"; it's our name and we love it. So there!
