Keyboard Video Mouse (KVM)KVM OverviewKVM is an acronym for Keyboard Video Mouse which describes a simple set of components for multiplexing the video and I/O control output of multiple systems. A single keyboard, video console and mouse can be used to control up to hundreds of individual computer servers or workstations via a switching mechanism. The monitor, keyboard and mouse are connected to the KVM switch (or are already integrated) and all managed systems are also connected to the KVM switch. The administrator can then control I/O data streams from the KVM control panel. Sophisticated KVMs allow for signal switching between managed hosts via keyboard strokes or even on-screen-displays (OSD). A KVM is perfect for datacenter scenarios where real-estate is better utilized for revenue generating hardware such as server and storage systems. A typical KVM switch will have between 2 - 16 ports and some support cascading in the same way a network switch would. Some KVM switches, such as the DKVM-8E offered below, can cascade up to 64-ports and greater. KVM Products

D-Link DKVM 8E - 8-port KVM Switch
DKVM-8E OverviewThe D-Link DKVM-8E Keyboard, Video, and Mouse (KVM) switch allows you to take control of eight different server PCs using just one keyboard, monitor, and mouse. It's easy to use, powerful, and scaleable. In addition, eight DKVM-8E switches (banks) can be stacked together to control up to 64 PCs. The DKVM-8E utilizes advanced microprocessor emulation to intelligently manage each KVM port. This allows simultaneous boot-up of all the attached PCs. The DKVM-8Es intelligent microprocessors save CAPSLOCK, NUM LOCK, and SCROLL LOCK status for each PC. It supports VGA, SVGA and MultiSync monitors at up to 1920 x 1440 resolution. Support for AT type PC with serial mouse ports are included using a mouse conversion technology. The DKVM-8Es on-screen display (OSD) provides a friendly interface and features naming and selecting of a specific PC, as well as password protection for advanced security. Hot-plug, auto-scan, audible feedback and keyboard "Hot Keys" make this device simple to use and manage. Also, two control buttons located on the front panel allow you to select a specific PC among the attached DKVM-8E and all stacked switches.
D-Link DKVM 16 - 16-port KVM Switch
DKVM-16 OverviewThe D-Link DKVM-16 is a Keyboard, Video and Mouse KVM switch that allows you to control up to 16 server computers using one keyboard, mouse, and monitor. It is easy to use, powerful, and scalable. Each DKVM-16 port has a dedicated microprocessor to intelligently manage port traffic and allows simultaneous boot-ups for all attached PCs. The advanced microprocessor technology also saves CAPSLOCK, NUMLOCK, and SCROLL LOCK status for each PC. Two control buttons located on the front panel gives you one touch access to your attached PCs and the user-friendly on-screen display menu allows you to configure your DKVM-16 switch's settings. The daisy chain port allows up to 8 DKVM-16 KVM switches to be stacked together for controlling as many as 128 computers. Featuring hot-plug, auto-scan, keyboard hot keys and audible feedback, the DKVM-16 makes it simple to manage all of your server computers. The DKVM-16 supports VGA, SVGA, and MultiSync monitors at up to 1920 X 1440 resolution. Integrated mouse conversion technology allows older AT type computers with serial mouse ports to be connected to the DKVM-16 using the included serial-to-PS/2 mouse converter. Both AT and PS/2 type keyboards are also supported, and the most popular mice are supported.
