SharqStor NS 1040

Overview

The SharqStor NS 1040 is a powerful entry-level Network Attached Storage (NAS) appliance. It implements both file-based and block-based storage networking protocols and is highly suited for file-and-print and small-scale storage consolidation applications.

SharqStor NS 1040

  • 1U Rackmount Chassis
  • 2TB+ Storage capacity
  • NAS and iSCSI protocols
  • 64-bit Processor Platform

Extreme Processing

Built using AMD 64-bit technology with single or dual-core support, the SharqStor NS 1040 may be dimunitive in size and easy on the wallet, but it certainly packs a mega-punch when it comes to crunching through data. With dual-core technology, you will be able to take advantage of increased application performance and network client throughput as the storage processing load is spread.

Storage Capacity and Flexibility

With up to 2TB of SATA-II storage spread across four 500GB disks, the SharqStor NS 1040 delivers a lot of storage capacity in a very small foot-print. And with new 750GB disks hitting the market, capacity can scale to a whopping 3TB in the future. Disk drives are encased in hot-swappable disk modules which allows for maximum uptime in the event of a disk failure - drives can be swapped in and out of the chassis without powering down the system.

RAID Protected Storage

With both hardware RAID and software RAID support, the SharqStor NS 1040 provides multiple RAID configuration options for almost any type of application. Hardware RAID levels supported are 0,1,5, and 10. Software RAID levels supported are 0,1,5,6, and 10. The powerful hardware RAID controller uses a point-to-point architecture to maximise I/O performance which is fully taken advantage of with the disk drives operating at 3Gbps throughput levels. For general network usage, opt for software RAID. For critical deployments with extended application availability requirements, opt for hardware RAID.

Management and Instrumentation

The SharqStor NS 1040 ships with Openfiler installed. Openfiler is the most feature-complete Open Source Network Attached Storage management application available today. It harnesses the power of enterprise strength Linux kernel and application suite and delivers file-based (CIFS, NFS v2/v3/v4, HTTP, DAV, FTP) and block-based (iSCSI initiator and target, FC initiator) protocols in a single framework. Powerful system instrumentation and remote management facilities include support for the IPMI standard and remote console redirection capability.
